Register for 2nd National Life Science Competition 2021

National Life Science (NLS) has come up with another interesting competition for Nigerian students. The aim of the National Life Science Competition is aimed at inspiring all Nigerian secondary school and tertiary institution students, in order to develop interest in life Science courses likewise solving challenges relating to life science. Categories of Competition

  • Secondary school category: It is open to all Nigerian Secondary School Students that are interested.
  • Tertiary Institution category: This category is strictly for students studying any course in Universities, Polytechnics, and Colleges.

Competition Timeline

Phase 1: (29th March – 30th April 2021)

Pre-qualification test: You are to follow the link to take the test, CLICK HERE. Any participant with good score will be contacted with instructions on the next stage of the competition.

Phase 2: (May 10th – June 7th, 2021)

Essays submission: Participants who passed phase 1 will be asked to submit a 400 – 500 words essay on the role of societies and communities in tackling pandemics. Depending on the area of interest, and discipline of a participant, we want to see essays that will put clear thoughts on: As individual what can I do? Scientist? Historian? Engineer? Medical Practitioner? Lawyer? Businessman? IT professional? Entrepreneur? Innovator? Government official? Etc. It is believed that all discipline can tackle pandemics in their unique ways.

Phase 3: (3rd-4th July 2021)

Pitch of life science to be held online, followed by the selection of winners and award ceremony.

  • 1st position – N100,000
  • 2nd position – N75,000
  • 3rd position – N50,000

a. The professor Abba Zubair prize in Multi-disciplinary Innovation – N100,000

b. Professor Isa Hussaini Marte young life scientist Award – N100,000

c. The professor Omowunmi Agboola Sudik prize in innovation — N100,000

d. The Nigeria Excellence in Biotechnology NABDA/OFAB Award – N50,000

e. People’s choice Award (Sponsored by the University of Sussex west African office) – N100,000.

f. The Genomics Award professor Christian Happi Excellence – N50,000

Additional Prizes

a. The best student from the Northeast – N100,000.

b. SEMA Prize for the Best students from Conflict-affected communities of yobe state – N150,000.

c. SEMA Prize for the Best student living with Disabilities from yobe – N50,000.

d. Yobe State scholarship Award prize for the Best Tertiary institution student from yobe state – N50,000.

e. Alhaji Bukar Maina Prize from Zone C yobe state, best student – N50,000.

National Life Science Competition Additional Benefits

  • Finalist and winners will receive commendation certificates.
  • Finalist and winners will be paired with experts for a long term mentorship.
  • Training organised by the spirit for social Good (SFSG) on innovation and creativity will be received by winners. They will be guided on how to apply skills learnt to shape socio-economic development, and develop their ideas and potential to be the future scientists.

How to Participate in the 2021 National Life Science Competition

1) Registration is needed with your name, school, Email, present level of study, and state of origin.

Note: There will be verification of all details provided. False information can lead to automatic disqualification. The personal data collected will be used only for the competition.

2) Quiz/test can only be taken once. Duplicate submission will lead to disqualification automatically.

3) Duration of test is 30 minutes. Endeavour to submit within the given time frame.

4) You are advise to ensure good quality of your internet to avoid disruption.
