My NYSC Experiences
Name: Igbasi Ogechi Immaculate
State of Deployment: Plateau state
PPA: ZHL Customer Service Institute
My name is Igbasi Ogechi Immaculate, plateau state Corper, Jos south local government area, my Place of Primary Assignments (PPA) is ZHL Customer Service Institute.
Corps members say NYSC is scam but it’s not, it is a compulsory phase one must pass through before your are completely free to apply for any job of your choice.
I did my registration a days to the closing of portal and I choose Kano state, Delta state, Oyo state and Nasarrawa state.
All I prayed for was either Kano or Oyo, but lo and behold I was posted to plateau state. One state I told myself I will never choose because of there very cold weather, instead of plateau state, I rather go back to Zamfara.
I was disappointed, I asked why not Nassarawa, at least its closer to Abuja, I can be going home easily but people around me said plateau was also close, it’s just 3-hour to Abuja and then I calmed my nerves…
I prepared myself fir the cold weather even though we camped at Nassarawa (Magaji Dan Yamusa Permanent, Orientation Camp Keffi). I got to camp, did my registration and settled down, I started meeting friends and mingling, camp was fun though because I participated well, Volleyball, Drama, Dance etc.
On the day we were to leave camp, I felt like we should start afresh because I made friends amongst Benue and Nassarawa Corpers because we camped together. We were issued our PPA letter, in which I was posted to ZHL customer service institute Jos south, I was so happy and had high hopes that I will be working in an office with air conditioner dresses corporately as a customer service officer.
Then we took off to Plateau state from Keffi with the hope that in 2hrs time we will be in plateau state, we left Keffi around past 1:00pm and got to plateau around 6:00pm, plus the vehicle was not on much speed.
To God be the glory I have a course mate serving in Jos too, I called to let her know that I have arrived Jos, she gave me description on how to get to her place, I took a tricycle to the junction came down from the tricycle paid and then crossed the road, stopped a vehicle going to Alheri that was when I realized I was only carry my traveling bag and bucket, I forgot my back pack containing all my credentials inside the tricycle, tears started flowing freely, I went back to NYSC office and met 1 corp member same batch with me who is from plateau state, I told him my ordeal, he told me to calm down that I will surely get back my items, he encouraged me and even helped me to contact some people immediately and even took me to my friend…
