Angry Youths Throw Stones Buhari’s Helicopter, Convoy In Kano
On Monday in Kano State, irate youths hurled stones and other objects at President Muhammadu Buhari’s motorcade.
The president arrived in Kano State for a two-day business visit on Monday.
Buhari is scheduled to commission certain state projects started by Governor Abdullahi Ganduje’s team during his visit.
The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) refused to extend the deadline for the Naira swap, thus the state government had asked the president to cancel the visit on Saturday out of concern that residents might demonstrate.
A few days prior to the most recent incident, youngsters in Katsina protested against the president’s visit to his home state.
Soon after Buhari had given the project his approval, young people, including hoodlums and students from state public schools, attacked the bridge underpass on the Kofar Kaura Road in Katsina and said in Hausa, “we are not interested.”
On Monday, it was difficult for the security personnel to keep young people away from the roads leading to Ahmadu Bello Way and other locations in the state where the president had ordered projects to be built.
At Hotoro, where President Buhari traveled in a convoy with state government representatives to dedicate the Galaxy Backbone Limited Project and other initiatives, youths hurled rocks and sticks in all directions at the moving vehicles.
No casualties were reported in connection with the incident.
