The name Big Brother is an adaptation from George Orwell’s novel, “Nineteen Eighty-Four.” In the novel, there is a theme of continuous repressive tailing of housemates by the live cameras and the audio microphones. As the show goes on, the housemates were being voted out, with the last standing winning the show.

Big Brother Naija is the topmost view reality show in Nigeria. The show gathers contestants from within Nigeria and abroad. Although contestants coming from outside the shores of Nigeria must be Nigerians by birth. These people are camped in one house to live together for 95 days to contend for the grand prize worth between 60 and 100 million Naira, brand endorsement deals, etc.
Every new day, each contestant in the house is given a diary session, where series of questions are asked about the general living condition in the house and how they feel being in the house. On weekends, every Sunday night, to be specific, house parties are held for some hours, with a famous Nigerian DJ in the house to provide music for the party.
The show began in 2010 just after the end of “Big Brother Africa”, making it an indigenous programme loved by many Nigerian youths and adults, serving as a medium of entertainment, recognition, sponsorship, etc.

Who is the real owner of Big Brother Naija (BBNAIJA)?
Interestingly, many lovers of the reality TV show do not know that the show is not owned by one individual but a group of corporate companies.
Jon de Mol Jr. reportedly created the franchise, which was first aired in the Netherlands. By 2006, Big Brother had recorded 387 seasons in 54 franchise regions and countries. Meanwhile, the ownership of the franchise changed since 2006.
