NYSC Speaks On Increasing Corpers Monthly Allowance

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has given clarifications on information making round amongst corps members that the federal government has planned to increase their monthly allowance soon.

According to the management of NYSC, Corps members who are hoping for an increase in their allowance should perish the thoughts because there is no such plan in place at the moment.

However, the NYSC Director-General, Brig-Gen Yashua Dogara Ahmed, while answering questions from the media at NYSC headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday, urged corps members to embrace skills acquisition rather than looking for an increase in their monthly allowance, explaining that no amount would ever be enough for them.

NYSC DG said;

“This present government increased the corpers’ allowance. It was N19,500, and they increased it to N33,000. That’s fair enough.

“I’ve told the corps members, pick a skill and learn. Even as government workers, I told them, salary is never enough for us. We always ask for an increment.

“Today, you’re collecting N33,000, and when you finish serving, you get a job of N100,000 to N150,000, and that is five times what you used to get, but you’ll still be complaining and looking for an increment.”
