Former Senator Ayogu Eze, who represented the Enugu North Senatorial district in the National Assembly, has passed away at the age of 66. According to a reliable source, Eze breathed his last on Thursday at an Abuja hospital after battling a protracted illness.
During his tenure in the Senate spanning from 2007 to 2015, Senator Eze made significant contributions to national governance and legislative processes. Serving as Committee Chairman on Information and Media during his initial four years, he later took on the role of chairman for the committee on works after his reelection in 2011.
Senator Eze’s dedication to public service extended beyond his committee roles. He served as a member of various committees, including Police Affairs, National Planning, Marine Transport, Federal Character & Inter-Government Affairs, and notably, the Constitution Drafting and Amendment Committee, where he played a pivotal role in shaping Nigeria’s 1999 constitution.
Reacting to the news of Senator Eze’s demise, Ikechukwu Eze, a youth leader from his community, Umuiyda autonomous community in Igbo-Eze North Local Government Area, expressed profound shock and grief. He described Senator Eze’s passing as a significant loss not only to the zone but to Nigeria as a whole.
“We heard the sad news. We are mourning him now. His death is a loss to us, the state, and Nigeria,” Ikechukwu Eze said.
Born on November 23, 1958, Senator Ayogu Eze began his political journey when he was elected Senator for the Enugu North Senatorial District of Enugu State on June 5, 2007.
The passing of Senator Ayogu Eze marks the end of an era, leaving behind a legacy of dedication, service, and commitment to the welfare of the people he represented.
