The Anambra State Government has assured the provision of adequate support to guarantee safe resumption of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Orientation Camp activities.
Prof. Theresa Obiekezie, the state’s commissioner for Youth Empowerment and Creative Economy, made the promise while hosting a delegation of NYSC led by its Director, South East Area Office, Alhaji Ahmed Ikaka.
She pledged the government’s commitment to putting the orientation camp in good condition for the incoming corps members posted to the state, and sustain their safety.
“The government has been supporting the scheme to enable it fully actualise the aim of youth’s development, capacity building and value re-orientation.
“The working relationship between the state government and the scheme will be strengthened so as to impact the lives of corps members,” she said.
However, the NYSC DG South East, Ikaka noted that the creation of a safe and enabling environment for the corps members was crucial to their wellbeing.
He revealed the scheme’s commitment to generating manpower especially, in secondary schools across the nation, adding that corps members were fully engaged in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We collaborated with NCDC in many areas. Some corps members produced sanitizers and hand washing equipment that are helpful against the pandemic,’’ he stated.
The Director-General praised the government for the provision of infrastructure, just as he requested for the construction of more hostels and quarters for its staff members.
“The state in the past had one of the worst orientation camps in the nation, but presently under the watch of the present administration, they never had it so good.
