Coronavirus (COVID-19) has killed one Dr Aliyu Yakubu with underlying ailment on Saturday in Daura LGA of Katsina State.
This was disclosed to newsmen on Tuesday by the Governor of Katsina State, Aminu Masari, after receiving a brief from the Katsina Anti-Corona Virus committee headed by the state Deputy Governor, Alhaji Mannir Yakubu.
“The deceased who is from Kogi State died at age of 60 years in Air Force Military Hospital Daura after been admitted for only 2 hours after returning three days ago from Lagos state where he stayed for two weeks.
“The late Dr Yakubu was also suffering from hepatitis and hypertension since three years ago.” He said.
The Governor said that after the death of the victim his blood sample was checked by the military medical expert and taken to Abuja NCDC for confirmation.
Masari said that the result of the victim came back to the state on Tuesday where it was confirmed that the victim died from Coronavirus.
The Governor said that the commencement of contact tracing of all those the dead medical practitioner must have come into contact with from Lagos to Katsina between Tuesday and Wednesday morning.
“Our medical response team are in Daura right now for contact tracing of all that came into contact with him, we hope by this night and tomorrow morning to take complete samples of those he had contact with to the NCDC.” He added.
At the time of filing this report, Nigeria has a total of 254 confirmed cases of the virus in the country, 44 persons have been discharged with six deaths, according to the NCDC.
