The Minister of state for labor and employment, Festus Keyamo has dismissed as fake news, the information trending on social media which direct people interested on Special Public Works (SPW) to visit their various states’ National Directorate of Employment (NDE) offices.
Keyamo said that the recruitment would not be done at the various states’ NDE offices but will be done at the LGA in order to maintain social distancing protocols.
Below are his words:
“Kindly disregard all messages directing people to go to NDE offices to register for the Special Public Works. This will breach COVID-19 guidelines and it will not ensure we strictly achieve the 1000 per LGA.
“The selection will be done from LGA to LGA, not in States’ NDE offices.”
However, Kayamo stated that any form submitted to APC ward leaders for SPW recruitment is invalid.
“This is not an APC programme but a programme for all Nigerians”. I have NOT directed that forms for the SPW be distributed to APC Ward leaders to give to party members. Any of such list will be discountenanced.
“We shall ONLY accept final lists from the States’ Selection Committees”, he said.
The Spacial Public Works (SPW) is an initiative of the federal government aimed at employing 774,000 persons in Nigeria.
1000 persons are to be employed from each of the 774 local government areas across Nigeria.
The work of the beneficiaries of this programme include, clearing of drainage, repairing roads, direct traffic and other essential services within their local government.
