The latest deadline of the SIM integration with valid National Identity Numbers (NIN) has not changed as the Nigeria Communication Commission (NCC) said the Federal Government did not approve extension of the deadline.
However, the Nigerian Communications Commission disclosed that they still await advice from the Federal reserve concerning the deadline.
NCC also said the new deadline set by the government is still in force despite calls from people for either extension or suspension of the registration process.
Recall that Federal Government had instructed the National Communications Commission to block any SIM card that is not linked to NIN after 30 December 2020, but the date has been extended. Below is the latest deadline.
The Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr. Isa Ali Ibrahim said the extension of the deadline from 30th December to 19th January 2021 is for subscribers WITH National Identification Number (NIN), and 19th February 2021 deadline is for subscribers who are yet to register for NIN.
Meanwhile, many people have called for deadline extension due to the large crowds that turn up daily for NIN registration at various offices of National Identity Management Commission (NIMC).
However, the Director Public Affairs, NCC, Ikechukwu Adinde, noted that there is no approved deadline extension beyond 19th January and 19th February.
“Right now, apart from the recent information we released concerning the extension, no further update yet.”
“The information on this matter is the one we release about when we moved the extension to January 19 2021 for those with NIN and February 9 for those without NIN.”
Nyscinfo.com gathered that large number of people are still gathering at NIMC various offices everyday for registration in order to meet the latest deadline.
