One of the things that Android phone users hate the most is the presence of some apps they don’t need on their phones. Painfully, these useless apps occupy the largest space in the phone memory, leading sometimes to your phone’s response to command becoming extremely slow.
Although these unwanted apps will not cause any damage to your phone, but they take up the space meant to enable the apps you need function optimally. These kind of unwanted applications are called bloatware and they are installed by your phone manufacturers to be used to push their advertisement to the phone users. In this article, you will learn how to uninstall any pre-installed app that you do not want on your phone.
How to Remove Pre-installed Apps From Android and iPhone
To remove any app from your Android phone, bloatware or otherwise:
- Open up Settings and choose Apps and notifications.
-
You will see all apps
-
If you are sure you can do without the app, select the app and choose Uninstall
However, you will not be able to completely remove an app as a result of the way the manufacturer has incorporated it into its own version of Android. If this is the case, there is an alternative way through which you can sort the situation out.
Look for an option labeled Disable instead of Uninstall. When you click on the Disable option, the app will be prevented from running. Thus, cease from using up vital resources in the system. This process may be a little bit different depending on the model of your phone and the version of Android that you are running.
Like we said before, some Android phone manufacturers will preinstall apps that can’t be deleted through the known method. If you want to completely remove apps rather than disabling them, or you come across bloatware that can’t even be disabled, then a couple of more advanced and involved options are open to you.
First, put your phone into developer mode. You can do this by going to ABOUT PHONE in your phone SETTINGS and tapping BUILD NUMBER seven times.
This will bring up a new Developer Options menu in the System section of Settings. Proceed to enable USB debugging. (Note that this will not cause any harm to your phone.)
How to remove Bloatware on iPhones
Just as you can do on the Android phone, you can also remove or uninstall apps you don’t want on the iPhone. Some of the pre-installed apps that you can uninstall are: Calculator, Calendar, Compass, Contacts, FaceTime, Home, iBooks, iCloud Drive, iTunes Store, Mail, Maps, Music, News, Notes, Podcasts, Reminders, Stocks, Tips, Videos, Voice Memos, Watch and Weather.
Follow this instruction to uninstall
- Long press and hold the icon.
-
Choose Delete App from the menu that appears.
-
Tap on Delete to finish the process.
Should you have any need for any of these apps again in the future, you can find them in the App Store, as these apps are always there for you to download for your use.
