British Council SSA Arts Programme 2021

The British Council through the program Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) Arts Cultural Exchange Programme, will be giving out grants to participants. Read also:

The program is open to creative researchers, artists, cultural organizations, and festivals from any of the eligible countries (UK and SSA).

Applicants are to collaborate with one another, build networks, invent market, create art, and share works with the populace.

  1. Categories For the British Council SSA Arts Cultural Exchange Program 2021

There are three (3) categories available for applicants to apply under;

  • Research

The research grant is about five thousand euro (£5,000), and its meant for the arts and creative sector participants.

Participants are to distribute their research work to the public via desired means. It could be in the form of movie (film), diary, event, photo, or blog.

  • New Collaborative Art work

Amount of grant given under this category is within twenty thousand euro to thirty thousand euro (£20,000-£30,000). It is solely for massive group projects, that is being undertaken within eligible Countries.

The said project must showcase something new in the art world. Likewise, it should be shared among reachable audience.

  • New Connections

The Grant to be given under this category is within five thousand euro to ten thousand euro (£5,000-£10,000). It is designed for new collaborations art experts in UK and SSA, which are the qualified nations.

The entry can be either development or research project(s), but must be shared with desired audience.

Countries that are Eligible For the British Council SSA Art Program

Depending on the category applied for, the qualified countries are;

  1. Wales
  2. Northern Ireland
  3. England
  4. Scotland
  5. Nigeria
  6. Zimbabwe
  7. Ghana
  8. South Africa
  9. Zambia
  10. Sudan
  11. Uganda
  12. Ethiopia
  13. Senegal
  14. Kenya

Note: There must be a collaboration of one SSA country and one UK country, for both New Collaborative Art work and New connections categories.

General Eligibility

  1. Applicants must be from either the SSA countries or UK.
  2. Applicants are expected to be an artist, creative researcher, cultural experts, and/or festivals.
  3. Working with audience that falls within 18-35 years of age.
  4. Applications made outside the eligible countries will not be accepted.
  5. Grants payment are to be given to a particular organization. Who if partner with another organization will share with the 50/50 formula.

Diversity: This is a section where projects run by women or disabled applicants, are being scored favourably.

Timeline of the British Council SSA Arts Cultural Exchange Programme

Data launching: 28th of July, 2021.

Date of Application opening: August, 2021.

Deadline: Both New connections and collaborative art making will end on the 8th of September, 2021. While that of Research will be open until 1st of February, 2021.

Date for Interview: By September 2021, selected applicants may be invited for interview.
