NYSC releases full names of Injured Katsina Corps Members yesterday, while releasing the names, the NYSC Director General, Brigadier Shuaibu Ibrahim, ordered state coordinators to enforce relevant extant rules on the movement of Corps members on inter and intra-state and local government boundaries.
The action, it was learnt, is part of measures to stem rising cases of deaths through road accidents and exposure to banditry and other violent attacks among corps members.
Ibrahim, who gave the directive while addressing recuperating corps members who were quartered at St. Martin’s De Porres Catholic Church, Katsina, said he visited the victims to see things for himself and to condole with the bereaved.
The NYSC chief urged the corps members to always get clearance from their state coordinators each time they want to travel, especially whenever they intend to leave their local government areas or travelling outside the states of their primary assignments. He said: “There is need for us to streamline where you go and where not to go. All of us should be very careful.
“If you are going anywhere, let your coordinator know. We must be sure that the journey is extremely necessary before you are permitted to go.
“We do not hope for a repeat of this type of incident, but we must guide against unapproved movement of the corps members. The procedure for travelling outside the state and area of deployments must be enforced.”
Ibrahim expressed gratitude to Katsina State Governor Aminu Bello Masari for not only assisting the accident victims but for also allowing one of the cars in his convoy to convey them from the accident scene.

The victims were travelling from Katsina to Funtua to attend a mass wedding.
The NYSC boss took time to sympathise with the 6 injured, including, Apeh Evelyn, Chinaza Azu, Francis Ogu, Ade Celestine, Patrick Shittu and Onoja Patience. The other injured 3 have recovered and have been discharged before the arrival of the DG.
He also prayed for the repose of the souls of the departed Corps Members.
Parish Priest of St. Martin De Porres Catholic Church, Rev. Fr. Joseph Dugbe commended the timely response of the NYSC boss, which he described as “the hallmark of quality leadership.”
The DG and the priest also spoke to the parents of the deceased corps members on phone, with arrangements on how to convey the corpses to Imo, Delta, and Ebonyi, their home states.
The NYSC Director General, later embarked on an unscheduled visit to Kaduna State Orientation Camp, where he warned the early arrivals among the 2019 Batch ‘B’ Stream Two prospective Corps Members not to endanger themselves with unauthorized journey under the guise of religion.
He urged them not to go outside their jurisdiction of posting for religious activities.
‘Please don’t make yourself available to kidnappers and don’t endanger your safety. Be conscious of your religious activities with the laid down rules in NYSC’, lbrahim added.
He urged them to uphold the ideals of teamwork, discipline, patriotism and loyality during and after their Orientation period.
