In line with President Tinubu’s directive to cultivate 500,000 hectares of land nationwide for bolstering food security, the Minister of the Federal Ministry of Communications Innovation and Digital Economy has announced the shortlisted grantees for the Fourth Industrial Revolution Technology Application (4IRTA) in Agriculture. How to apply for 4IRTA Grants.
4IRTA stands for Fourth Industrial Revolution Technology Application. This term refers to the utilization and integration of advanced technologies associated with the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) in various sectors, with a specific focus on applications in agriculture.
The Fourth Industrial Revolution involves the convergence of digital, physical, and biological technologies, such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), Blockchain, and Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), to bring about transformative changes in industries, including agriculture, to enhance efficiency, productivity, and sustainability.
The 4IRTA initiative typically involves grants, support, and partnerships to encourage the development and implementation of innovative solutions using these technologies in the agricultural sector.
In November of the previous year, the Federal Government invited applications for market-ready innovations leveraging Fourth Industrial Revolution technologies, including UAVs, IoT, AI, and Blockchain, to enhance productivity in Nigeria’s agricultural sector.
During the two-week application period, the ministry received a substantial 2,329 applications. These submissions underwent two rounds of rigorous reviews facilitated by leading 4IR technology researchers and practitioners of Nigerian descent across the globe.
The reviews meticulously assessed criteria such as the alignment of proposed solutions with 4IRTA objectives, solution readiness, and the quality of video demonstrations provided by the applicants.
