The leadership of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has advised its members to seek out other legitimate means of livelihood, as it is most likely that the protracted strike action embarked by the University lecturers would not come to an end soon.

Disclosing this in a meeting in Abuja yesterday, ASUU lamented that lecturers have not been paid salaries since February this year, and this is unconnected to their refusal to join the Integrated Personnel Payroll Information System (IPPIS) proposed by the Federal Government, against the University Transparency and Accountability System (UTAS) which had been in use by ASUU. Despite several meetings held between both parties, there has so far been no compromise reached as the Federal Government’s insistence on ASUU joining the IPPIS platform has met stiff resistance by the lecturers who do not seem to back down on their decision to stick with the (UTAS). Quick loan
Besides the salary dispute, ASUU has also made a case for the deplorable state of the nation’s education sector which they have advocated for a reform. Recall that the leadership of the union had recently advised the Federal Government to declare a state of emergency in the sector in order to fix the bugs which are evident.
ASUU has therefore called on its members to embrace alternative means of survival, and informed students/parents that the strike would not be called off anytime soon, as the Government has not shown seriousness in this regard. Loan
