Africa Institute Global Africa Translation Fellowship: Apply

This article is about the Africa Institute Global Africa Translation Fellowship 2021/2022.

The Africa Institute announced the Global Africa Translation Fellowship as part of its African Languages and Translation Initiative. The fellowship accepts proposals from across the Global South for a $5,000 award to finish translations of works from Africa and its diaspora into English or Arabic. This is a non-residential fellowship that allows the scholar to complete his or her studies in a location other than The Africa Institute (Sharjah, United Arab Emirates).. The fellowship’s goal is to make essential books in African and African Diaspora studies available to a global audience.

Depending on the quality and scope of the project, the fellowship will grant funds ranging from $1,000 to $5,000. Retranslations of old, classic books, as well as previously untranslated works, collections of poetry, prose, or critical theory, may be among the projects chosen. The project could be a work-in-progress or a brand-new initiative that can be completed within the grant’s period.
