By Comrade Nnadi Goodluck
It’s no more news that President Buhari has signed into law the long awaited Minimum Wage Repeal and Re-Enactment Act, 2019 on Thursday, 18th April 2019 to change the salary of workers from N18,000 to N30,000 monthly.
But, the question in the lips of the NYSC Corps Members is, will they also be included in the new minimum wage.
Reacting to the question yesterday, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly Matters (Senate), Senator Ita Enang, said, “It covers all persons covered by the Act.”
On when the Act comes into effect, Enang said: “The effective date is 18th of April, 2019 as Mr. President has assented to it.
We at Nyscinfo, has all the details on how this works, read below carefully.
“NYSC Corps Members won’t be paid N30,000, but rather, they will be paid N33,000 or more.
If they’re lucky, the new payment will commence immediately this April i.e, the incoming April Alawee.
If not, they’ll still receive the increment in arrears, just like it was done in March 2011 starting with 2010 Batch B, when the alawee was increased from N9,775 to N19,800.
In arrears meaning that, they’ll receive the remaining balance, anytime the Federal Government starts to pay the new alawee, even after they’ve passed out, i.e 33,000 – 19,800, beginning from April when President Buhari signed it into law.”
In 2010 minimum wage was 18000 which was equivalent to $122, in 2019 it’s been increased to 30,000 which is equivalent to $82. Now are y’all still happy thinking we are making progress????
Thank you Mr President for making this possible.
