Can you give your N33,000 to your Pastor as First Fruit

We want to know how many Corps members would give first fruit to their Pastors. So the question is “Can you give your N33,000 to your Pastor as First Fruit?”

Before you answer this question, let’s briefly look at what First Fruit is all about.

What is first fruit?

Most Nigerian pastors cannot freely talk about giving or generosity without mentioning “first fruit”. However, in most churches, first fruit means all the money that you made in the first month of the year (January).

Your first fruit can be your salary, allowances or other earnings for January. They usually collect this in the first or second week of February.

They believe that any member of their church who does not pay ‘first fruit’ will not be blesse or his blessings will be taken away from him.

According to Leviticus 23:10, “When you come into the land which I give you and reap its harvest, then you shall bring a sheaf of the first fruits of your harvest to the priest (now pastor)”.

The concept of first fruits is rooted in biblical times when people lived in an agrarian society.

Harvest time was significant because that was when the hard work the farmers had poured into their crops all year began to pay off.
