Kindly note that TIN is compulsory and had be made effective since January 2020. So as a citizen of Nigeria who owns a business, or work with private sector or a Civil Servant, you need to have Tax Identification Number to help you have an easy run of your business.

The Joint Tax Board (JTB) made the processes of getting TIN easy and cost free.

How to Get Tax Identification Number (TIN) in Nigeria

Below are the procedures to get TIN number in Nigeria:

For businesses

  1. Visit closest Office of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRE).

  2. Collect and fill the TIN application form.

  3. Provide your business name, registration number or Certificate of Incorporation.

  4. Provide information about your organization such as company’s address, location and commencement’s date, etc.

For individuals

  1. Visit FIRE office

  2. Complete the Application form for TIN.

  3. Provide a valid means of Identification (National ID Card, Driver’s license, International Passport, Voter’s Card, or Staff ID).

  4. Provide your residential address, phone number, and other information required.

When you follow the guideline above, you will be issued your Tax Identification Number:

Note: TIN usually takes 10 to 15 business days to be ready, from the day you submit your application for Tax Identification Number. Although, sometimes these can vary. Requirements to get Tax Identification Number

Below are the basic requirements;

  • Bank Identification Number (BVN)
  • Valid identification card (i.e. Voter’s Card, Driving license, National ID Card, International Passport)
  • National Identification Number (NIN)
  • Active E-mail address and Phone Number
  • Business must be registered by the Cooperate Affairs Commission (CAC), .

How to apply for Tax Identification Number (TIN) Online

Online application is the fastest, it takes 48 hours (2 days) after the request has been submitted.

To apply for TIN online, visit https://tin.jtb.ng. Going through this process means that you have to wait for two days before you can have access to you tax identification number.
