Foreign-trained graduates are required to provide an evaluation letter during online registration for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) program. In this article, you will learn how to obtain an NYSC evaluation letter for foreign-trained graduates.
Please note that not every foreign graduate that is required to provide their evaluation letter; it’s for those whose institutions’ accreditation is in doubt.
What is an NYSC evaluation letter?
It’s a letter that Nigerian foreign graduates need to obtain from the Federal Ministry of Education. This letter confirms that the institution and course they studied abroad are duly accredited by the government of that country.
During NYSC online registration, if your dashboard displays “you have not been evaluated yet,” it means you need to upload the evaluation letter. The NYSC management has made evaluation compulsory for foreign graduates, especially those who studied in African countries.
Why the NYSC letter of evaluation?
In Nigeria, some tertiary institutions are banned from participating in NYSC because they lack accreditation from the National University Commission (NUC) or other regulatory agencies. There are also institutions operating illegally outside Nigeria, and the NYSC management aims to identify graduates from those fake foreign institutions.
NYSC checks the accreditation of courses or programs because some institutions are not allowed to offer a particular course or program.
However, the National University Commission (NUC) has cautioned Nigerians from studying in Ghana, Niger, Togo, Benin Republic, etc., possibly due to the lack of accreditation in many institutions in those countries.
During the evaluation process, the Ministry of Education will verify the accreditation status of your institution. Ensure your institution is accredited before applying for NYSC; if in doubt, visit the Federal Ministry of Education for confirmation. When you obtain the NYSC evaluation letter, scan and upload it on your NYSC dashboard. It may take a few weeks to reflect.
