Meet Sylvester Abiodun Alabi, Lagos New Police Commissioner

Born to the family of Mr Owoeye and Mrs Alice Alabi of blessed memory, on December 31, 1964, Sylvester Abiodun Alabi, a seasoned police officer with extensive experience policing both within and outside Nigeria, is from Ekiti State.

Education

He was admitted to the University of Lagos in 1982 after completing his basic and secondary school education, where he studied sociology and earned a Bachelor of Science with Second Class Upper Degree.

His desire for a good education led him to enroll at the prestigious Obafemi Awolowo University in Ile-Ife, where he earned his master’s degree between 1988 and 1989.

Police Career

CP Abiodun was inducted into the Nigeria Police Force as Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police on 3rd March, 1990. He has since served in several capacities in the Nigeria Police Force within and outside Nigeria, notably among United Nations Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK) in 2001. In August 2001, he was assigned to the elite Police Mobile Force as a Unit Commander.

He was appointed Squadron Commander of Police Mobile Force Squadron 43 Lagos (Diplomatic Protection Squadron) in April 2004, and was responsible for the protection of all Embassies in Lagos.

In June 2009, as a Chief Superintendent of Police, CP Abiodun was demobilized from the Police Mobile Force and assigned to Lion Building Divisional Headquarters as the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), before being redeployed to Ikeja Divisional Headquarters in Lagos.

He was promoted to Assistant Commissioner of Police in September 2013 and assigned to Force Headquarters Abuja as ACP Admin Police Mobile Force.

Professional Courses Passed

Junior Command Course, Intermediate Command Course, Leadership and Senior Management Course are among the courses that CP Abiodun Alabi has completed. In June 2016, he was promoted to the rank of Deputy Commissioner of Police and assigned to the Taraba State Police Command as DCP Administration, before being transferred to Bayelsa State Command in July 2017 as Deputy Commissioner of Police Administration. He was assigned to Ekiti State Command as the Deputy Commissioner of Police Operations in December 2018, after which he was nominated for the National Defence College (NDC), Abuja, Course 28.

CP Abiodun was promoted to the rank of Commissioner of Police (CP) after completing his Higher Defence and Strategic Course at the National Defence College, and deployed to the Central Criminal Registry (CCR), Force CID Annex, Alagbon, Lagos, from where he was transferred to Bauchi State Command as the Commissioner of Police Bauchi.

He is a Fellow of the National Defence College (fdc) in Abuja and a member of the Nigeria Institute of Management (mnim).

Personal Life

Playing lawn tennis and watching detective movies are two of his favorite pastimes. CP Abiodun Sylvester Alabi is a married man with a family.
