No corps member must die again, NYSC DG warns state coordinators.
The Director General, National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Shuaibu Ibrahim has warned all state coordinators of NYSC to follow the policies and operational guidelines in all orientation camps nationwide, as they will be held responsible for death of any corps member.
The DG gave the warning during 2020 Batch ‘A’ Pre-orientation meeting of management with Area Coordinators, State Coordinators, Camp Directors, Camp Commandants and collaborating agencies held yesterday in Abuja.
Brigadier General Ibrahim said, “We have administrative procedures, the essence of the warning is that all of us should take our job very seriously. There shouldn’t be any nonchalant attitude towards our jobs, the scheme lays more emphasis on the welfare of our corps members because they are the future leaders of Nigeria.
“We do not joke with our corps members, all coordinators must ensure that the welfare of corps members are well taken care of. I was once a corps member and some of you people too, and we all are contributing to the development of this country in our various endeavours.”
Meanwhile, the DG reiterated that the security of lives and property of corps members is of paramount importance to the scheme. According to him, there is the compelling need to continually strategize and effectively liaise with the security agencies, NYSC State Governing Boards, NYSC Local Government Communities and other relevant stakeholders to ensure the safety of the corps members before, during and after the orientation course.
