No corps member was involved in Ondo boat accident — NYSC

Corps Members were not among the officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission whose boat capsized on Saturday.

This was revealed on Saturday by the Director in charge of South-West, National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, Emmanuel Attah.

According to the director, no corps member was deployed to the riverine area of the state for governorship election duty in Ondo.

He said: “We did not deploy corps members to the riverine areas, so none of our corps members is among those in the capsized boat.

“But we thank God that none of those in the boat died.”

Recall that the boat that capsized late Friday night carried some ad-hoc officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission with some election materials in the Igbokoda area of the Ilaje Local Government Area.

The wooden boat reportedly carrying no fewer than 15 persons was said to have capsized owing to overloading, with personnel and some election materials, apart from strong wave and current.

Rotimi Oyekanmi, the Chief Press Secretary to INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, however, said that the commission got a report that there was no casualty as all the victims were rescued.

He said: “I am told all our ad-hoc staff were safely evacuated.”
