Since men typically hold the monarchy in Nigeria, many people have questioned if any women have ever held the position of king.

Have you ever wondered if Nigeria has any female monarchs? The question whether a woman may serve as a traditional monarch in Nigeria, however, confounds many people. Some societies in Nigeria still recognize females as their rulers, despite the fact that the majority of them are against it.

If you’ve been curious whether there is a female king in Nigeria, this article will help you out.

Being a king in Nigeria is not by accident, since it is either bestowed upon one by birth or chosen by the populace. In contrast, kings are revered in some regions of Nigeria because they establish laws that all citizens must abide by.

Kingship entails a great deal of responsibility and sacrifice, which is why the majority of people believe that women will not be able to hold conventional positions of power.

In Nigeria, the majority of these female kings acquired their titles from their fathers, however, some were anointed as early as childhood.

Despite being women, these monarchs are expected to have a manly appearance because the position they hold is meant to be masculine.

Regency in various Yoruba societies refers to the custom of appointing an interim king, typically a female, while a male replacement is being sought.
