Are you a female entrepreneur between the ages of 20 and 45 who lives in Pemba or Mara? Do you have a business concept or an existing business? AWE applications are now open for interested and qualified women to apply!

The United States Embassy, in collaboration with SELFINA, is pleased to announce the opening of applications for the Academy for Women Entrepreneurs (AWE) program, which aims to provide women company owners in Tanzania with the resources they need to realize their bright entrepreneurial ideas.

Benefits of Academy for Women Entrepreneurs (AWE)

Key Program Objectives:

  • Provide resources for women to engage in U.S-style online education with guided facilitation and localization from ECA alumni, local women business leaders, or other local partners.
  • Foster networks that support AWE participants’ access to peer-to-peer mentorship, business partners, and scaling opportunities with businesses in the region and in the United States.
  • Enable access to a wide range of on-going programs tailored to women’s economic empowerment to expand the effects of AWE participation.

Academy for Women Entrepreneurs (AWE) Qualification Requirements

Who is eligible:

  • Aspiring or startup women entrepreneurs with a viable business idea
  • 20 to 45 years old women entrepreneurs
  • Tanzanian citizens residing in Pemba and Mara
  • Must be able to commit to the full program from July to September 2023 in Pemba, and October to December 2023 in Mara (2 weeks of English language classes, and 8 hours per week for 13 weeks for AWE training)
  • Applicants with basic computer knowledge
  • Applicants with a working laptop
  • Applicants who can easily understand English (writing and speaking)
  • Applicants with an interest of sharing the knowledge gained with others
