Why JAMB did not give you admission despite your high score
JAMB candidates always want to know why they were not given admission despite their high score in UTME. In this post, I will explain reasons JAMB did not give you admission.

Reasons JAMB did not give you admission
Below are possible reasons JAMB did not give you admission despite your high score in UTME;
1. You did not reach the departmental cut-off mark
Aside the general cut off mark, schools also set their departmental cut-off marks. So, even if you reach the school cut off mark, you will not gain admission except you meet departmental cut off mark.
However, having a high score in UTME which qualifies you to write Post-UTME will not automatically place you on admission list.
Note: You need to meet both JAMB and departmental cut off mark of your school of choice.
2. Wrong subject combination
During JAMB registration, you need to be extra careful when choosing subjects to take in JAMB examination.
Although, a lot of JAMB candidates do not take subject combination very serious; reason they never get admission despite their high score.
The truth is that even if you have a high score in UTME, you will gain admission if your subjects combination in UTME do not match the required subject for that particular course you want to study.
For Example: if your want to study Electrical Engineering in University of Nigeria, the right subject combination in UTME should be;
- Use of English
- Mathematics
- Physics
- Chemistry.
If you write Use of English, Mathematics, Economic and Commerce in UTME, you will not be given admission even if you score a very high mark.
3. Your department has lost its accreditation
In the year 2011, I know a friend who scored about 289 in JAMB and 280 in Post UTME to meet UNIZIK cut off mark for Medicine and Surgery. But he was not given admission because UNIZIK lost its accreditation for Medicine and Surgery that year.
So, the institution of your choice may lose its accreditation for a course you want to study.
If something like that happens, the school will have no choice other than to admit you in another related department or will not admit you at all.
Most time, affected candidates are usually told to apply for supplementary admission (change of course).
4. You did not make the 45% merit quota
According to the admission policy, only 45% of the total number of candidates will be admitted to any institution based on Merit.
The truth is that not every qualified candidate for admission will make up this required 45%.
