To visit Canada, Form IMM5257 is used. This is the form to apply for Temporary Resident Visa (TRV) to visit Canada for the purpose of business, tourism or family visit.

Canadian visa requirements for Nigerians

To qualify for a TRV, the applicant must show to the Immigration Officer that they meet the requirements of the Immigration and Refuge Protection Act (IRPA). Individuals must also satisfy the following conditions;

  • Be law abiding and has no record of crime
  • Satisfy the officer they will leave Canada at the end of their stay
  • Must be law abiding, and pose no security threat
  • Be of good health (medical examination is required)

Steps to apply for Canada visa in Nigeria

Below are the step-by-step procedures for Canadian visa application in Nigeria:

Step 1: The applicant should read read the visa application requirements on the IRPA website and download the application form as well as checklist relevant documents to the visa purpose.

Step 2: Completed Forms are to be printed on a white, bond quality, non-glossy paper, using a laser printer. The applicant should ensure that the 2D barcode is printed clearly and on high-quality paper. Kindly note that downloaded and/or hand-written forms will not be accepted.

However, applicants that are unable to complete a paper application by themselves and require assistance to do so, can avail VFS Global’s chargeable Assisted Service Paper Application, at the visa application centre.

Service is available for both biometric and non-biometric applicants.

All applicants will be required to attach current passport copy and complete a Visa Application Centre consent form for assisted service paper application.

Step 3: Payment of Visa Application fee. This is payable via an invoice generated from the website of the immigration office.

Step 4: If the applicant is not required for biometric verification, the applicant should visit the local Canadian passport office and submit relevant documents.

Step 5: The next is interview which requires the applicant to present his/her documents to the officer in charge.

All communication with IRPA is done via email with the successful applicants urged to submit their passports through a Passport Request Letter.
