About ECOWAS Peace Fund

The ECOWAS Peace Fund (EPF) was founded on December 10th, 1999, under Article 36 of the 1999 Protocol related to the Mechanism for Conflict Prevention, Management, Resolution, Peacekeeping, and Security of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS). The ECOWAS Peace Fund (EPF) was established in May 2006 with the mission of funding and supporting relevant activities and initiatives addressing conflict prevention, management, and resolution, as well as peacekeeping, peacebuilding, and recovery, while also building the capacity of relevant stakeholders to promote long-term peace and human security in the West African region.

Requirements/Eligibility:

  1. Between the ages of 15 and 35,
  2. You must be a citizen of an ECOWAS member country.
  3. Submissions must be made in one of the three official languages of the ECOWAS: French, English, or Portuguese.

Categories and Age Groupings:

  1. Secondary school (15–21 years old) – 1, 200 –1, 500 words
  2. Tertiary (age 22–35) –1, 500 – 2, 000 words
