The application to be a member of the Nigeria Youth 4 peace is currently ongoing. Membership of individual is open to youths that falls between the ages of 18 to 35 years, and also to organisational groups working on the YPS agenda.
During the 7573rd meeting, In December 2015, a resolution was adopted by the United Nations Security Council which spotlighted the link between security, peace and youth.This ground of resolution emphasised and identified the peace, and security architecture of youths.
It portrays the youths as partners in preventing countering violent extremism, violence and building peace.
There is no doubt that Nigeria is facing serious security challenges, and breaches. These challenges can be ranged from kidnapping, terrorism to banditry, community conflicts, cultisms, hooliganism, and communal clashes among others. Since the return to civil rule in 1999, these security breaches has being there.
These security challenges, has been received by young people both in the aspect of victims and as agents. It is not strange that the young people tend to be affected more in the high rate of joblessness and poverty, especially when looking at Nigeria’s huge youth population. This affects the young people both as actors and at victims, by the incessant insecurity in the country.
In recognition that Nigeria’s most valuable resources are that of young people, the NY4PI which is a movement created to help empower young people across the country for peace building, and conflict prevention, and also to mobilise and build capacity, is now welcoming applicants to apply for the 2021 Nigeria Youth 4 Peace Initiative.
