The Nigerian Army will recruit about eight thousand (8,000) soldiers soon, for counter-terrorism and anti-banditry campaigns.
This was disclosed on Monday by Senator Ali Ndume (APC-Borno), Chairman Senate Committee on Nigerian Military Affairs while briefing newsmen in Maiduguri.
Ndume expressed optimism that in 2021, Nigeria counter-terrorism operations would curtail terror attacks and other security challenges in the country.
He said;
“Instead of the normal recruitment of 4,000 or 6,000 soldiers at a time, we have asked them (the military) to recruit about 8,000 soldiers.
“The new recruits are undergoing training in Zaria and Falgori in order to beef up the number of the troops”.
Senator Ndume revealed that the Nigerian Military had started the delivery of more sophisticated equipment for its operations.
He added that the budget for Operation Lafiya Dole’s Theatre Command has been increased from N75 billion in 2020 to N100 billion in 2021.
