NYSC to blacklist institutions doing fraudulent mobilization.
The National Youth Service Corps has again warned Corps Producing Institutions against presenting unqualified persons for mobilization for National Service.
The Director-General, Brigadier General Shuaibu Ibrahim gave this warning on Tuesday while addressing Data Entry Officers of Corps Producing Institutions at the 2020 Batch ‘A’ Pre-Mobilization Workshop in Asaba, Delta State.
The DG urged the Data Entry Officers to resist pressure from desperate over-aged graduates and other unqualified persons who would want them to manipulate mobilization data in their favour.
He advised them to make honesty and integrity their watchwords, adding that NYSC on its part had internal mechanisms for detecting over-aged and other unqualified persons.
He said among other innovations, the Scheme had started inserting date of birth on the Certificate of National Service.
The DG warned that the Scheme would not hesitate to blacklist any institution that violates the guidelines on Mobilization, especially as they relate to the age of the graduates.
“Let me emphasize here that the NYSC Act stipulates that only graduates of regular and accredited programmes who are not above thirty years of age as at the time of graduation are eligible for mobilization”.
“We do not mobilize elderly persons. Therefore, enlighten your students on the need to make themselves available for Service at the right time”.
General Ibrahim further urged the institutions to avoid admitting candidates for Postgraduate Studies without evidence of completion of National Service or Exemption as applicable.
