NYSC Warns Corps Members Against Protests Over Minimum Wage

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has cautioned corps members against participating in any protests regarding the delayed implementation of the new minimum wage. This warning came from the NYSC director-general, Brigadier-General Yush’au Ahmed, and was communicated through Eddy Megwa, the director of press and public relations, on Sunday.

The NYSC management emphasized that they are still waiting for the government’s official announcement concerning the increased minimum wage. Corps members were advised not to be swayed by anyone to join protests, as doing so would violate their oath and the NYSC Bye-Laws.

The NYSC also expressed concern over misleading information being spread by certain individuals. Megwa clarified that any circular claiming to be from the NYSC Director-General, which circulates through social media, is false. He assured that no genuine circular from NYSC would be released through social media platforms.

For clarity, the directive on the suspension of biometric clearance and Community Development Services (CDS) still stands. Corps members will be informed through official channels when the suspension is lifted.

Furthermore, the NYSC and the Federal Government remain committed to the welfare of corps members. Successive administrations have always included corps members in wage reviews, and this situation will not be different.

Corps members are advised to wait for the official government announcement on the new minimum wage and avoid being instigated into protests. The NYSC will enforce the NYSC Act and Bye-Laws on any member who takes the law into their hands.
