Ocean City Lagos was inaugurated/launched in Lagos on Friday, December 17, 2021. The city is described as the Africa’s first green and smart city and newest man-made island, located off the Lagos coast of the Atlantic Ocean. The project was planned by the former President Obasanjo in 2003, but launched in 2021 by Ocean City Limited under the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari. Features of Ocean City Lagos
It will offer the following:
- A good eco-tourism landscape,
- Modern restaurants,
- World class residential neighbourhoods,
- Classic medical facilities,
- High-end shops,
- Public parks,
- Sports centres,
- Arts and entertainment hubs, and more.
According to the managing director of Ocean City, Dewunmi Osagie, the city will house a gigantic fifty (50) storey building (skyscraper) which will become the tallest building in Africa.
The Ocean city project is expected to revolutionise the geographic, economic, and social landscape of Nigeria.
During the inauguration of Ocean City in Lagos, personalities present at the programme include a former Justice of the Supreme Court of Nigeria, Bode Rhodes-Vivour; Managing Director, Ocean City Lagos, Adewunmi Osagie; President, Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Michael Olawale-Cole; Mr Seun Obasanjo, a son of former President Olusegun Obasanjo; and a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Mike Ozhekhome.
Meanwhile, the Managing Director of Ocean City Lagos, Adewunmi Osagie, assured Nigerians the best development experts in the world would be engaged to ensure the safety.
She noted that the project was necessary due to emerging global trends in urban development, and that the project, on completion, would set the benchmark for real estate development in Africa.
She said:
“We live in a changing world with increasing demands for futuristic solutions. The definition of luxury has now been shifted, with rising expectations of quality standards in premium innovation.
“We identified this gap and as a company, we are now on a mission to bridge that gap and also leave a mark while at it.
“Ocean City, will not only break records but become a blueprint for real estate in Africa and ultimately a destination for tourists all over the world.”
