NIMASA Essay Competition 2022

The Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) is now taking entries for its World Maritime Day NIMASA Essay Competition 2022.

The Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) is holding an essay contest in honor of World Maritime Day in 2021, with the theme “Sustainable Shipping for a Sustainable Planet.”

The essay competition is intended to raise awareness of the maritime sector’s vast prospects and pique the enthusiasm of Nigerian teenagers in pursuing professions in it.

The International Maritime Organization (IMO) and member governments around the world commemorate World Maritime Day to draw attention to the importance of shipping safety, maritime security, the marine environment, seafarers, and other facets of the IMO’s activities.

About NIMASA

The Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, formerly the National Maritime Authority, is in charge of shipping, maritime labor, and coastal waterways regulations in Nigeria. Inspections and search and rescue services are also provided by the agency.

Aim and Benefits of NIMASA Essay Competition

  • 1st: N500,000 Education Grant plus a laptop & a plaque + Publication of the winning essay in NIMASA’s magazine, The VOYAGE & the NIMASA website
  • 2nd: N350,000 Education Grant plus a laptop & a plaque
  • 3rd: N250,000 Education Grant plus a laptop & a plaque
  • 7 Consolation Awards of N100,000 Education Grant each & a plaque

Qualifications for the NIMASA Essay Competition

  • Only Year 1 and Year 2 students from Nigerian higher institutions are eligible to enter the essay competition.
  • Along with their submissions, participants must scan genuine confirmation of studentship. Letters of admission and the institution’s identification cards should be used as proof.
  • Essays should be double spaced in MS Word and font size 12 with a limit of 1,200 words (+ or − 10%).
  • Plagiarism is not tolerated.

How to Apply

Interested candidates should send their essays to wmdessay@nimasa.gov.ng and mail@samuelson.com.ng if they satisfy the aforementioned conditions.

NOTE:

  • After the deadline, essays will not be considered.
  • Only those who are chosen will be contacted.
  • Within two weeks of the deadline, notification of prize and award presentations will be given out.
  • Prizes and awards will be given out at a later date.
