Taking part in the NYSC scheme is said not to be compulsory, but it is indirectly compulsory since you cannot get job in many organizations or go for postgraduate studies without the NYSC Certificate.

Any Nigerian who graduated from the higher institution at the age of 30 years or above is issued with a Certificate of Exemption, while those that graduated below 30 are mobilized to serve in NYSC before they could get NYSC Certificate. See how NYSC Calculate age limit for mobilization.

How to get the NYSC Certificate?

After graduating from tertiary institution, candidates are to register online for NYSC programme. Those who are above 30 years will be exempted and redirected to print exemption slip. Nigerian trained students should submit the exemption slip they printed online to their institution to process their exemption letter.

Meanwhile, foreign trained students are to take the slip to the NYSC Abuja headquarters along with other documents for collation of their exemption letter. See how to process NYSC exemption letter for both local and foreign trained students.

Those who are below 30 years will be posted to the NYSC Orientation Camp where they will spend 21 days. After spending some days in the NYSC Orientation camp, they will be posted to Place of Primary Assignment (PPA).

After completing the National Assignment, the NYSC Discharge Certificate will be awarded to the deserving Corps Members.

Notice the word, “deserving” because only Corps Members who perform well would be given the NYSC Certificate.
