About Albert Baker Fund (ABF)
The Albert Baker Fund (ABF) is a non-profit Christian Science organization established in the United States. Active Christian Scientists who are nationals of one of the 13 countries where ABF has established a program are eligible for post-secondary educational grants only (no loans). Our scholarships are given out based on the applicant’s academic achievement and documented financial need.
The Albert Baker Fund’s (ABF) aim is to serve the Cause of Christian Science and mankind by providing resources for Christian Scientists’ education and development.
Christian Scientists in the United States founded the Albert Baker Fund in 1964. They established a fund to provide low-interest loans to American university students. Each student was supposed to repay the loan over the course of ten years, ensuring that the fund would be replenished for future generations. The fund was named after Albert Baker, Mary Baker Eddy’s older brother, who is credited with instructing her and overseeing her education.
ABF began lending money to students pursuing Christian Science nursing training in 1998. ABF expanded its initiatives in 2005 by offering awards to students in the United States and Canada. Our grant program was expanded to Africa and Europe in 2004. In the coming years, we intend to expand our grant program to include recipients from all around the world.
