The 2022 Nigerian Students Poetry Prize (NSPP) is open to Nigerian undergraduates studying in Nigeria and the diaspora.
It is a project of Poets in Nigeria (PIN) designed at fostering literary originality and encouraging critical thinking among Nigerian undergraduates. The prize has received over 3500 entries from students representing over 100 tertiary institutions (including universities, polytechnics, colleges of education, schools of nursing, and seminary schools) since its debut in 2016 at the University of Ibadan.
The NSPP Undergraduate Grant’s Purpose and Benefits
Aside from a monetary prize of 500,000, outstanding entries will get a certificate of excellence and a complimentary copy of the NSPP anthology featuring their work.
The first prize is worth 200,000.
Second Prize: 150,000
3rd Prize: 75,000
Consolation Prize: 25,000 each for the 4th, 5th, and 6th place finishers
NSPP Undergraduate Grant Qualification Requirements
- All Nigerian undergraduates studying in Nigeria and the diaspora are eligible to apply.
- Entrants must be graduates of an accredited postsecondary institution.

- Submissions should be made at http://nspp.poetsinnigeria.org.ng, following the instructions carefully.
- Entrants are free to write on any topic they like as long as it is current.
- The judges’ unanimous verdicts will not be contested under any circumstances.
- When you enter the contest, you automatically grant PIN permission to use your entry as they see fit.
- All entries must be written in the English language. Footnotes must be used to translate native terms into English.
- Subscribers should enter to www.poetsinnigeria.org.ng for regular updates.
- Entrants must offer their works unique titles.
- Underneath your creation, indicate the topic you’ve chosen.
- Poems must be the contestants’ unique intellectual property.
- A single entry with a maximum of 30 lines is allowed for each entrant.
- Entries must have never been published before. If a submission is found to have violated this rule, it will be automatically canceled.
- All contestants must purchase at least one of the six NSPP anthologies available for purchase on the submission page.
