Police Constables Recruitment Continues

Despite the Nigeria Police Force’s stance, the Police Service Commission has decided to move on with the hiring of police constables.

Concerning the hiring of police constables, there has been a dispute between the PSC and the NPF leadership, in particular the Inspector General of Police, Usman Baba.

The PSC launched a portal for the hiring of police constables on its official website on August 15, 2022.

The NPF responded by saying that the advertisement should not be taken seriously because it is not related to the hiring of police officers.

Workers at the PSC went on indefinite strike in the midst of the argument, calling for the resignation of Mr. Musiliu Smith, the commission’s chairman.

The commission’s spokesperson, Mr. Ikechukwu Ani, said in a statement on Wednesday that the PSC would move forward with the hiring and that it had no intention of reneging on its constitutional duty to appoint Nigerians to the police force.

He said:

“The Commission is the only legal body charged with the responsibilities of recruitment into all the three entry points in the Nigeria Police Force – Constable, Cadet Inspector, and Cadet Assistant Superintendents of Police.

“The commission wishes to state that its recruitment portal, which opened on Monday, August 15, 2022, is still running with over 60,000 applications already received. The portal will close on September 26, 2022. Interested Nigerians should continue to avail themselves of this opportunity to pursue a career in the Nigeria Police Force, as the Commission has no intention to abdicate its constitutional mandate to recruit Nigerians into the Police Force.”

Ani added that the PSC’s management and chairman are working to uphold the constitutional duty.
