Adenike, a corps member, and seven other people were kidnapped by gunmen on Tuesday night in Extension 2 Relocation, near Arab Road, in the Kubwa neighborhood of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
Adenike was abducted in her father’s house when she was completing the mandatory National Youth Service.
According to a source who confirmed this to our correspondent, Adenike is the lone child of her parents, and several others vanished as a result of the assault.
The source also mentioned that two more managed to escape as the kidnappers were escorting them through the hills.
The source said, “Adenike, the landlord’s only daughter who’s currently doing her NYSC, has been kidnapped. We’re confused now because several others are also missing.
“Seven others were kidnapped alongside Adenike. But two others, among the ten earlier, kidnapped, escaped and are safe now.”
According to information obtained by our correspondent, the gunmen entered a home in Kubwa’s Extension 2 Relocation along Arab Road and opened fire on two male residents, killing one of them instantly and sending the other to the hospital.
An eyewitness who made contact with our correspondent through a distress call during the attack reported that the shooters first moved to Toyin Street after intermittently firing at Amilomania Street.
He said, “We heard gunshots twice when they first stormed a house at Amilonania Street. They’re now at Toyin Street, at the last house by the hill.
“They shot a tailor, Abel, popularly known as Oshodi, and he’s lying down dead. They also shot another male, but we have taken him to the Kubwa General Hospital at Phase 4, but he was unconscious.
“The gunmen escaped through the hill.”
The FCT Police spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, did not answer calls or texts from our correspondent on Tuesday night when contacted.
