ASUU Calls Off 8-month-old Strike Conditionally

Information reaching our news desk is that the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has finally suspended its eight-month-old strike conditionally.

The union ended the strike after a meeting by its national leadership on Thursday night, which lasted into the early hours of Friday, 14 October, 2022.

ASUU called the meeting to determine its next action after its state branches met over the Court of Appeal ruling last week.

The Court of Appeal had ordered ASUU to call off the strike before its appeal of the ruling by the National Industrial Court ordering lecturers to resume work can be heard.

Members of the union’s National Executive Committee (NEC), which comprises the chairmen of the state chapters and members of the national executive, attended the meeting at the ASUU National Secretariat in Abuja.

It can be recalled that ASUU commenced the strike on February 14, 2022.
