List Of Elected Governors In Nigeria’s 2023 Elections

This article will detail the governors of Nigeria who were elected in the March 18th gubernatorial election earlier this year. The names mentioned in this article received at least two-thirds of the votes cast in at least two-thirds of the Local Government Areas in their respective States. We would also mention whether these governors are first-term or returning for a second term, as well as the political parties to which they belong.

1. Alex Otti

Alex Otti was elected governor of Abia State. On the ticket of the Labour Party (LP),  defeating the incumbent  People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

2. Ahmadu Finitri

After winning the supplementary gubernatorial election held on April 15, 2023, Ahmadu Finitri, the current governor of Adamawa State, earned reelection to prolong his tenure until 2027. He ran for office on the People’s Democratic Party’s (PDP) platform.

3. Eno Umo Bassey

Eno Umo Bassey of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) won the governorship election in Akwa Ibom State on March 18th.

4. Bala Mohammed

Bala Mohammed, the incumbent governor of Bauchi State, won the gubernatorial election on March 18th, extending his tenure till 2027. He was re-elected for a second term on the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) platform.

5. Alia Hyacinth Iormem

Alia Hyacinth Iormem of the All Progressives Congress (APC) ran for and won the gubernatorial election in Benue State on March 18, 2023, becoming the state’s governor-elect.

6. Babagana Zulum

In the March 18th gubernatorial election, Babagana Zulum was re-elected for a second term as governor of Borno State. He ran for the seat on the All Progressives Congress (APC) platform.

7. Otu Bassey Edet

Otu Bassey Edet of the All Progressives Congress (APC) ran for and won the Cross River State governorship election on March 18th. He is the state’s first governor.

8. Oborevwori Sheriff Francis Orohwedor

Delta State’s governor-elect is Oborevwori Sheriff of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP). He is the state’s first governor.

9. Nwifuru Francis Ogbonnau

Ebonyi State’s governor-elect is Nwifure Francis Ogbonnau. He ran for and was elected on the ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC). Nwifure Francis Ogbonnau is the state’s first governor.

10. Peter Mbah

Enugu State’s governor-elect is Peter Mbah of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP). He is the state’s first governor.

11. Inuwa Yahaya

Gombe State Governor Inuwa Yahaya has been re-elected for a second term. He belongs to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

12. Namadi Umar Alhaji

The All Progressives Congress (APC)’s Namadi Umar Alhaji won the gubernatorial election held on March 18th to become the governor-elect of Jigawa State. He is the state’s first governor.

13. Uba Sani

Uba Sani of the All Progressives Congress (APC) ran for and won the governorship election in Kaduna State on March 18th. He is the state’s first governor.

14. Umaru Dikko Radda

Umaru Dikko Radda of the All Progressives Congress (APC) ran for and won the governorship election in Katsina State on March 18th. He is the state’s first governor.

15. Yusuf Abba Kabir

Kano State’s governor-elect is Yusuf Abba Kabir. He stood for office on the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) platform.

16. Nasiru Idris

Nasiru Idris was confirmed as the new governor of Kebbi State after winning the supplemental election on April 15th. He is the state’s first governor.

17. Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq

AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of the All Progressives Congress (APC) ran for and was re-elected governor of Kwara State for a fourth term.

18. Babajide Sanwo-Olu

Babajide Sanwo-Olu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) was re-elected governor of Lagos State for a second term.

19. Abdullahi Sule

Abdullahi Sule of the All Progressives Congress (APC) was re-elected governor of Nasarawa State for a second term.

Mohammed Umaru Bago

Niger State’s governor-elect is Mohammed Umaru Bago of the All Progressives Congress (APC). He is the state’s first governor.

20. Dapo Abiodun

In the March 18th gubernatorial election, Dapo Abiodun of the All Progressives Congress (APC) was re-elected as governor of Ogun State. Dapo Abiodun’s tenure as governor of Oyo State has thus been extended till May 29, 2027.

21. Seyi Makinde

Seyi Makinde of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) won the March 18th gubernatorial election, extending his tenure as governor of Oyo State for another four years.

22. Mutfwang Caleb Manasseh

Mutfwang Caleb Manasseh of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) emerged successful in the Plateau State gubernatorial election on March 18th, 2023. He is the state’s first governor.

23. Siminalayi Fubara

Siminalayi Fubara of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) was elected as Rivers State’s governor-elect on March 18th.

24. Aliyu Ahmed

On the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Aliyu Ahmed ran for and won the governorship of Sokoto State. He is the state’s first governor.

25. Kefas Agbu

Kefas Agbu of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) was elected governor-elect of Taraba State in the March 18th gubernatorial election. He is the state’s first governor.

26. Mai Mala Muni

Mai Mala Muni of the All Progressives Congress (APC) won the gubernatorial election to retain his position as governor of Yobe State till 2027.

27. Dauda Lawal

Dauda Lawal of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) ran for and won the gubernatorial election in Zamfara State, becoming the state’s governor-elect.
