The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), is a one-year mandatory service established by the Federal Republic of Nigeria with the aim to foster unity in Nigeria after the Nigerian civil war that put the country in a fragile state. After graduating from the University or Polytechnic at the age of 30 or below, next is to go for National Youth Service.

The case we have here is that of a Nigerian youth, Aliyu Abani, who has inspired Nigerians after completing his university education despite his poor financial status.

The story of the graduate who is now currently undergoing the mandatory National Youth Service Corps programme, surfaced online.

Abani, instead of letting his lack of access to adequate finance hinder him from getting a Degree, summoned courage and took up the menial job of pushing a wheelbarrow to sponsor his education in the Nasarawa State University, Nigeria.

There is a possibility that even after completing his National service, the passionate young man is still determined to continue his menial job until something much better comes his way.

Kudos to him for staying resilient and inspiring others with his story.

How much is NYSC allowance?

Corps members’ allowances is still N33,000. Although there is hope that the Federal Government will introduce NYSC Trust Fund following the bill of implementation passing second reading at the Senate.

What are the Qualifications for NYSC

To qualify to take part in the National Youths Service Corps programme, you must;

  1. Be a Nigerian by Birth
  2. Have Degree or HND obtained from accredited University or Polytechic within or outside Nigeria
  3. Below the 30 years
  4. Got admission through JAMB or regularize with JAMB

How to register for NYSC

For locally trained graduates, registration for starts from their institutions. Corps Producing Institutions (CPIs) are responsible to mobilize their qualify candidates for National Youth Service. After being mobilized, candidates are to proceed to the official NYSC portal for online registration.

Foreign trained graduates are to visit the NYSC official portal for registration.
