The Solutions Journalism Network is looking for submissions from journalists who are leading or wish to lead a project that will produce solutions journalism stories and extend the approach to others for the third year in a row. The Solution Journalism Network Fellowship is a year-long opportunity for journalists to design and implement such projects alongside other entrepreneurs who are committed to expanding the reach of solutions journalism and becoming its future face.
Structure of the Fellowship
- Fellows will participate in the following activities during the fellowship year, which runs from January to December 2022:
- Monthly calls with sub-cohorts comprising four or five additional LEDE Fellows working on projects that are similar in emphasis or theme;
- Monthly calls with sub-cohorts comprising four or five additional LEDE Fellows working on projects that are similar in emphasis or theme;
- Bimonthly calls with the entire LEDE Fellows cohort of 20 to 25 people, as well as a few guest speakers who will help the fellows advance their careers;
- Julia Hotz, SJN’s LEDE Fellowship manager, calls twice a year to check project progress;
- Sessions of knowledge-sharing with SJN’s larger network of journalists.

Eligibility Solution Journalism Network LEDE Fellowship
- Ability to carry out a project that promotes the dissemination of solutions journalism in a community;
- Capacity to seek out (and offer) expertise among colleagues and constituents; commitment to the idea of “all-teach, all-learn”
- Entrepreneurship that is motivated by a desire to collaborate and “bring others along”;
- Identity, geography, experience, and role diversity;
- A thorough knowledge of journalism and its present issues;
- Curiosity, zeal, and passion.
Commitment
Fellows must agree to:
- Obtain their project’s specific goals of seeding solutions stories, documenting teachable insights for the larger SJN community, training and engaging with fellow solutions-focused journalists, and building a network around solutions journalism;
- Contribute thoughts, project updates, and a “all-teach, all-learn” attitude, seeking out — and sharing — peer expertise within the LEDE cohort and with other SJN-affiliated solution journalism practitioners;
- Serve as a local and worldwide champion for solutions journalism while adhering to SJN’s ethical standards.
