The Honourable Minister of the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development (FMYSD), Sunday Dare has made it known that the Women Basketball Allowance Fund is Ready.
This was disclosed in a meeting with the House Committee on Sports. Read also: FMYSD National Youth Conference 2021
The committee was led by Honourable Olumide Osoba, who happened to be the chairman.
The Minister of FMYSD used the opportunity to deliberate on the women’s basketball team known as D’Tigress allowances payment.
According to him, all payments were made to the NBBF account with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
Although there lies doping allegations regarding some team Nigeria athletes in the Tokyo Japan Olympics.
Funds amounting to Two Hundred and Thirty Thousand Dollars ($230,000) was raised from various Banks through the adopt-an-athlete initiative made active by the Minister.
Both the D’Tigress and D’Tigers were asked to submit their account details for disbursement to commence by CBN.
From the details submitted to CBN, only D’Tigress submitted their names with the male team D’Tigers failing to comply.
CBN has successfully sent the designated sums to the female team with the assurance that the process will soon be completed.
But they still anticipate the submission of the male team (D’Tigers) as soon as they obliged.
The fund is intact, as CBN has provided a copy of the account statement which shows that the $230,000 NBBF fund was not in any way mismanaged.
The Women Basketball Allowance fund will surely get to all member of the team.
Those that appear before the House Committee on Sports are Hon. Sunday Dare, permanent Secretary to the Minister, Alhaji I. Abubakar, and NMYSD Anti-Doping Committee.
