The World Food programme (WFP), the food support arm of the United Nations dedicated to ending hunger, achieving food security and improving nutrition worldwide by 2030, has collaborated corporate companies in Nigeria to provide N120m monetary help to 6 agribusiness start-ups, as part of its mission to solve food security issues in Nigeria.
The initiative is a program of the Zero Hunger Roundtable, designed by World Food Programme in order to bring major stakeholders who can create collective pathways to achieve the mission of ending hunger in Nigeria.
This partnership will be led by corporate entities such as Nigerian Breweries Plc, Heineken, Tolaram Group, TGI Group, Promasidor, and Guinness Nigeria Plc. 16 benefitting start-ups were chosen after pitching their ideas to the lead body.
The Zero Hunger Sprint was inaugurated to promote innovative strategies to end hunger, to be led by Nigerian start-ups which would be supported by participating corporate organizations. The 16 selected start-ups provided their proposals to the private sectors investors at the Ozumba Mbadiwe Avenue Victoria Island venue, which hosted the meeting of the body over the weekend.

In participation were Zowasel, a multi-faceted marketing platform that offers quality crop testing and links small growers to large buyers, which got N42 million. A natural baby food company, Colourful Giggles, got N21 million, whereas Agrorite got N21 million naira as well. Other companies who benefitted include Koolboks and Crop2Cash with N21 million and N10 million, respectively.
Speaking during the event, the CEO of Tony Elumelu Foundation, Ifeyinwa Ugochukwu, said the Zero Hunger Roundtable is a collaboration of private and public sectors participants who are dedicated to contributing to actualizing zero hunger in Nigeria.
