The Government of Nigeria is to commence cash payment to 200,000 people in Nigeria. The beneficiaries of cash transfer scheme are urban poor senior citizens that do not have access to regular income and are affected by COVID-19 lockdowns.
The Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management official and Coordinator of the National Social Safety Net Programme, Iorwa Apera, made the announcement on Monday in Abuja.
He disclosed that identified citizens were authenticated by their respective communities.
Apera said that 4% of 35 million poor and vulnerable persons in the national register in 36 states and the Federal Capital were elderly persons.
Two million people, categorised as senior citizens, were aggregated by location, education, age, status, disability and sex.
