No. I don’t think NYSC should be scrapped. Reasons are NYSC teaches alot. Apart from empowering fresh graduates by paying them monthly for their upkeeps to making them go places to visit and know about other states, their culture and lifestyles, NYSC has helped alot of fresh graduates because it also makeup for unemployment in Nigeria. People graduate every year so instead of staying at home for a whole year or more doing nothing, NYSC helps in posting individuals to where they can actually go and work. Though many people see NYSC as a waste of time but I don’t. NYSC has helped alot beyond their imagination. Some people actually save cash to start up their lives after NYSC, some get married so tell me if you don’t go for NYSC will any of these just fall from heaven? All I can say is NYSC has actually done alot good than harm.
NYSC shouldn’t be scrapped.
The scheme has help to inculcate discipline in Nigeria youth and also develop common ties among the Nigeria youth it has also help the youth to acquire the spirit of self reliance by encouraging them to develop skills for self employment.
In my own view, I would suggest that NYSC shouldn’t be scraped rather, it should be reform.
Despite the fact that the process has affected some persons negatively, it has also inpacted greatly into the life of some persons. But it seems the negatively impact is more than the positive impact.
One of the ways it should be reform is trying to lengthen the period at which individual stays in the orientation camp to about 6 months. During these periods, individual will be allowed and thought different vocations, and other area of interest should be made available which can benefit the life of individual and the country at large after the period of training. At the end of the six months in camp, government should give a particular amount to individual in other to be able to establish Himself/herself in area where they have acquired knowledge during the training in camp.
I say this because many graduate are left frustrated and jobless after NYSC year. Many have gone into depression while others have gone from bad to worse, become a problem to the society.
Even some persons who had business ideas have no capital to establish it. When federal government gives this token in bulk, it will be more valuable than the normal one being given monthly for a year and it stops.
With the amount the federal government will be giving individual after the 6months in camp, individual will be able live a better life through what they have invested on after service year.
It will also help to reduce the level of unemployment in the country. Thanks.
Funny but true, it promotes the following:
1.Peace
2. Culture and Tradition
3. Allawee(that thing dey help o)
4. Life partner(over the years it has been going on)
5. Experience
6. Boost skill acquisition
7. Job opportunities
8 builds Ones CV,
So Nysc shouldn’t be Scrapped but protected and given more room to expand and grow in terms of alignment with various organization
I say NO to scrapping the scheme. NYSC has more advantages than the disadvantages, for instance he who pays attention well during the SAED program in the camp will at the end have a second plan if the first one fails (i.e. employment), graduates have high chances of getting employed by mingling with the staffs of their PPAs, He who has the opportunity to save would have a capital to start something for a living, and also, coming together of graduates from different angles of the country to me is a very great thing for all.
No, shouldn’t be scrapped simply 1.because nysc is the act that brings unity as a whole, for instance some igbo are serving in the North, and some of the igbo men wants to cause some terrors among the northern people in the East they will first consider there children serving in the north..
2. Nysc exposed you to another geographical-zone in the country, such as business idea, adaptation, skill acquisition, saving and language of other tribes…
3. Nysc helps in terms of establishment of house, organisation, life and so on….
4. Nysc helps in independent of self, for instance in the era of 33k, some will save all, some will earn at the end of the service year w
150-250k……and it has helped some of the youth in country in terms of job opportunity, self employed, and to create there job such as fashion design, barbing salon so as to employ others……
5. It brings Peace’s and sustainability in the country
Apart from the aforementioned labour flaws of the NYSC, the programme has been overtaken by vices. The privileged parents do everything they can to ensure their graduating children are posted to the safer cities and the ‘juicy’ agencies. It is the graduates who are not so connected that are posted to the suburban and rural areas. Even then, a lot of graduates brandishing the NYSC certificates were largely absentee participants in the scheme. A lot of the Corps members even cede their allowances to the NYSC officials as proxies who fictitiously mark them present when they are not.
It is high time we stopped the circus. The NYSC should be scrapped. This will remove its many injustices and vices from the plethora of ills in the Nigerian body politic.
NYSC should not be scrambled. Because it is a medium that brings about youths integration from different parts of the state. The FG should also create another medium that will create employment for people after service aside N -power
No!
Because this is the only avenue by which Nigerian youths from different parts of the Federation irrespective of tribe or institution are brought together to achieve one course.
Nysc shouldn’t be scrapped out since it’s objective was to promote national unity among Nigerians.
The nysc should not be scrapped,
Because it develop a sense of corporate existence an common destiny of the people of Nigeria,…
An also contribute to the accelerated growth of the national economy.
Nysc shouldn’t be scrab, its an avenue of exposing the youths to better opportunities, Skills acquisition and help in building self esteem and it helps to remove the minds of youths from white collar jobs.
In simple words NYSC is a well built foundation for aspiring youths that wants have a good start and prosperous tomorrow.
Not at all but should be promoted because that’s another source of unity in diversity
NYSC during the years have contributed a lot to nation building. Many People who goes to school within the cycle of there geo- political zones, have the opportunity of travelling to other geo political zone. There they meet people with different kinds of believes, religious, culture and ideology. You will have the privilege to learn about there ways of life. Now we can see a tribe marrying other tribes. And because of NYSC people have learned to tolerate each other due to series of orientation. NYSC also gives us the opportunity to explore through series of skills accusations both in camp and outside the camp. The contribution of NYSC can not in any circumstance over emphasized because our unity is in our diversity. So, nysc can not and will not be scrap for any reason. Thank you.
It won’t be funny if its being scrap because nysc gives opportunities to youths in the area of skills acquisition, experience of real life work, connections, others ways of life and discipline. You will agree with me that through nysc many learn handworks, know more of work ethics, behave responsible and lots more. I believe nysc is a season where graduate are prepared for life it self.
The scheme should not be scraped and should be retain.because the scheme create a senceless of one Nigeria in the minds of the citizen.for in stance if a parent living in sokoto and had a child serving in Oyo state ,he or she will treath the coper well in his or her community
Also the nysc is also established to promote grass root development for ,coppers are learned person and they can also help the children living in local area to develop there educational background
Another Germain point is that Nigeria government has small workforce so corppers are the one helping the government to bridge the gap of workload an the workers that are currently engaged in the civil service work
No, NYSC should not be scrapped, NYSC is like an eye opener to the youths of Nigeria. Not only eye opener but it unite the youths from nothern and southern part of the country, NYSC add more experience to the life of the youths, knowing other people culture, tongue, and many more. The most far and foremost reason it should not be scrapped is, NYSC is like a backbone of unity and peace of Nigeria especially in this time of security challenges.
NYSC SHOULD NOT BE SCRAPED BUT IMPROVED UPON.
There was a question I came across on Facebook which asked “will you sell your nysc certificate for two million?” and more than 90% of those that answered the question said that they can even add their other documents for the two million. This is to tell you that due to lack of jobs in Nigeria corpers did not value their certificates but they value the NYSC scheme. As for me NYSC should not be scrapped but improved upon in the area of increment in the allowance from the 33k to 100k to enable corp members have enough capital for startup after passing out.The current allowance is still small hence corpers have to be using it to take carefor themselves during the one year. Again, another way to improve the scheme is by packaging a particular sum of money(above 200k) for corp members and paying to them in the last month of their service year to enable them have tangible capital to start their life better.
In my own view, i will suggest that NYSC shouldn’t be scraped but rather be Restrategised and Redefined. In the Sense that every Corp Member will be posted in His/Her field of study so as to gain the needed experience in pursuing their Individual career after the one year of service. Can you imagine a Mechanical Engineering Graduate being posted to a school or religious Organization. Service year should be part of working experience for young Graduates
NYSC shouldn’t be scraped out instead it should be emphasized as the pillar of unity in diversity and should make it as priority for every youth graduate of the country. With this, peace and unity will return to the giant of Africa (Nigeria)
Wow great! Simple and short and u nailed it
