NYSC DG Tasks Corps Members On Community Development Project
The Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Y.D. Ahmed, has encouraged the corps members of the 2023 Batch ‘C’ Stream One to contribute to the development of their host communities by initiating projects that will enhance the residents’ quality of life.
He emphasized that Community Development Service (CDS) is one of the four mandatory programs of the NYSC, and active participation in CDS is necessary to receive the certificate of national service.
Gen Ahmed conveyed this message during his visit to the NYSC Sokoto and Kebbi State orientation camps, where he addressed the corps members.
Appeal to Corps Members
He urged corps members to carefully assess the requirements of their host communities and seek permission from NYSC before initiating any projects.
“Source for funds to execute projects within your host communities. Note that it is an offence to sponsor projects with your monthly allowances.
Please don’t accept free rides from strangers. Go to approved motor parks and board vehicles whenever you are travelling.
“Follow the security lectures you were exposed to in camp anywhere you are posted, and ensure you don’t expose yourselves to danger,” he said.
The Sokoto State Coordinator of NYSC, Alhaji Yakubu Yaro Usman, praised the corps members in the Wamakko camp for their obedience and dedication.
Similarly, Mrs Okolo Aghata Banki, the Kebbi State coordinator, mentioned that a total of 154 camp officials, including NYSC staff and personnel from other agencies, are working together. She also stated that 1,088 corps members were registered at the camp.
Mrs Banki emphasized that the safety and overall welfare of all corps members in the camp are of utmost importance.
