We have been receiving messages from people who want to know if it is possible to serve in NYSC twice.
Following the increase in Corps members’ monthly stipend from N19,800 to N33,000, coupled with a high rate of unemployment in the country, many graduates would like to either become a permanent Corper or to serve more than once in National Youth Service Corps (NYSC). In this post, we shall look at if a Nigerian graduate can serve in NYSC program more than once.
Is it possible to serve in NYSC more than once?
‘Yes’, it is possible, but it is also an offence to serve in the National Youth Service Corps Program more than once.
NYSC is a onetime life experience, that is why there is a Passing Out Parade (POP). Once you passed out, it means you have become a retired Corps member, and cannot go back to service.
Even if you studied over one course in the university, you are entitled to serve only once in the NYSC scheme, so coming to serve again attracts penalties.
Penalties for serving in NYSC more than once
If caught, you will risk the following;
- Two (2) years imprisonments, or
- Four thousand Naira (N4,000) fine or
- Both.
This is contained in Section 13(b) of the National Youth Service Corps Act.
Now, you know it is an offence to serve more than once, do no try it because NYSC hate fraudulent mobilization and would definitely catch and prosecute defaulters.
You can be remobilized
Please note that the NYSC remobilization is an opportunity giving to only those who have enrolled for National Youth Service Corps program but DID NOT complete their service year.
If you are decamped, expelled or absconded from service for one reason or the other, you can apply for remobilization. But you will return all the allowances you previously received. Hope this article help? Please share to inform other people.
Ahhhh. Too bad. What do you expect?
